What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You break work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes long, separated by short breaks. Each interval is called a pomodoro, named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a student.

Why a 25 minute timer works

Short, fixed sessions make large tasks feel manageable and reduce the urge to check your phone. Knowing a break is coming helps you stay focused, and regular rests prevent mental fatigue. Many students and developers find that four pomodoros produce more real progress than hours of distracted work.
